Cloverfield 3’s surprise release after the Super Bowl

The trailer for the third installment in the Cloverfield franchise dropped during the Super Bowl last night, which would have been news in itself – but then Netflix did something unprecedented by releasing the film just hours later, after the game. Even Ava DuVernay‏ commented on the”gamechanger” status of the move to release so quickly, as well as on the diversity of the talent behind it:

The story follows a group of astronauts stranded in space, and takes place before, during and after the original movie’s timeline. It was directed by Julius Onah, written by Oren Uziel and Doug Jung, and produced by J. J. Abrams’s Bad Robot Productions. Here’s the trailer:
