Kendrick Lamar won a Pulitzer for his album DAMN.

Kendrick Lamar, known for being a trailblazer, has done it yet again. His album DAMN., which was released one year ago in April of 2017, just won the Pulitzer Prize for “distinguished musical composition” this week. This announcement is groundbreaking because Lamar has just become the first non-classical, non-jazz artist to win the title. The prize listing calls the work, “a virtuosic song collection unified by its vernacular authenticity and rhythmic dynamism that offers affecting vignettes capturing the complexity of modern African-American life.”
